LAFAYETTE ― Harrison junior high jumper Makayla Ketterer and baseball player Kendrick Pena were voted the male and female Journal & Courier Athletes of the Week in the final tally to end the 2024-25 sports season.
Ketterer received 25,876 votes to lead all candidates, while Pena received 15,088 votes, the most for any male candidate.
Here’s what Ketterer and Pena each accomplished between the period of June 2-7, 2025.
Kendrick Pena – Harrison
Pena’s bat heated up during the IHSAA sectional and regional championships last week. Pena went 2-for-3 with a 2-run RBI single against McCutcheon in the IHSAA sectional 4A championship last Monday and went 4-for-5 against Westfield in the IHSAA 4A regional championship.
Makayla Ketterer – Harrison
The junior high jumper was on her ‘A’ game again in the IHSAA state girls championship meet at North Central High School in Indianapolis. Ketterer finished fourth and earned the highest overall finish at the state meet for any Lafayette area athlete, male or female, after scaling the high bar at 5-7.
