Free agent edge rusher market for Colts continuing to shrink

If the Indianapolis Colts have any interest in adding to their edge rusher unit, free agent options appear to be dwindling.

Recently, Cam Jordan re-signed with the New Orleans Saints, and now, from the sounds of it, Joey Bosa may be calling it a career.

“It is more likely than not that Joey Bosa has played his last NFL down,” said Adam Schefter on The Adam Schefter Podcast, via Colts Roundtable. “Now, again, could a situation like the 49ers come along that entices him enough to come out and play again? Yeah, absolutely. We saw it happen last year with Philip Rivers, so you never know when a player is fully done and when he’s not done. But the fact of the matter is, I think if the Niners wanted to pair those two together, it probably would have happened already. I think if Joey Bosa wanted to play football, it probably would have happened already.”

Bosa is a five-time Pro Bowler and was the Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2016.

After nine productive seasons with the Chargers, Bosa spent 2025 in Buffalo, where he totaled five sacks and 54 quarterback pressures.

Why is edge rusher still a need for the Colts?

The Colts experienced quite a bit of turnover at this position during the offseason. However, whether or not this unit has improved or whether Chris Ballard has found an impact presence to pair with Laiatu Latu remains to be seen.

Likely competing for those starting snaps opposite of Latu will be Jaylahn Tuimoloau and Key. Tuimoloau played just over 200 defensive snaps as a rookie, while Key has primarily been a rotational defender in his career.

At this stage of the offseason, there is no guarantee that a free agent addition solves any of the Colts’ pass rush unknowns, but a veteran presence could provide some stability, and more competition certainly isn’t a bad thing.

Bosa was Gregg Rosenthal’s top remaining free agent. Other available pass rushers include Haason Reddick, Kyle Van Noy, and Jadeveon Clowney.
