Five people, between ages of 10 to 19, injured in shooting on Indianapolis' northeast side

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a shooting in the city’s northeast side that left five young people injured on July 27.

In an update on July 28, police noted that the five people injured in the shooting ranged in age from 10 to 19 years old.

At about 4:15 p.m., police received a report of a person shot in the 3900 block of Hornickel Drive.

When police arrived, they found one person with gunshot wounds and confirmed that person was awake and breathing. The person was transported to a local hospital, according to police.

Upon further investigation, police learned that four additional people had arrived at Community East Hospital with gunshot wounds. Two of the people were in stable condition, but the third person was in critical condition, according to police. It’s unclear what the condition of the fourth person was when they arrived at the hospital.

Police believe that the four people who were treated at Community East Hospital were injured in the shooting that happened on Hornickel Drive.

It’s unclear what led up to the shooting, but police are still investigating the matter, and recommend anyone  with additional information contact IMPD at (317) 327-3475
