Former Notre Dame star to visit with in-state rival?

Could a former Notre Dame star be headed to an in-state rival?

Former Irish standout Markus Burton may soon be trading his blue and gold for cream and crimson. According to reports from On3, Indiana is interested and will host him in order to convince him to finish his career in Bloomington.

Burton, a 6-foot guard who led Notre Dame in scoring as a freshman, quickly became the face of Notre Dame basketball under head coach Micah Shrewsberry. He averaged more than 17-points per game and earned himself All-ACC Freshman honors. Burton followed it up with a sophomore season where he averaged over 21-points and over 37% from behind the 3-point line. His junior season was cut short due to an injury after only playing 10 games. Burton announced he was entering the transfer portal shortly after the season ended.

Indiana’s interest in him is obvious, not only do they have holes to fill in their back court, but bringing in a former Mr. Basketball from the state is an added bonus for the Hoosiers. The Hoosiers did not make the NCAA tournament in head coach Darian Devries’ first season at the helm and the pressure is on for the coach to get the Indiana program back on track. It appears Houston might also be a potential spot for Burton to land next season as well.

A decision on Burton’s next destination is expected in the coming weeks, but his potential move from South Bend to Bloomington will surely spark up conversations amongst basketball fans in the Hoosier state.
