Fire Up DWNTWN celebration returns to Muncie on Saturday, Aug. 2

MUNCIE, IN — Fire Up DWNTWN — presented by Ivy Tech Muncie and produced by Muncie Downtown Development Partnership — will return to downtown Muncie on Saturday, Aug. 2.

Hours for the event featuring an “unforgettable day of free, family-friendly festival fun,” according to a news release, are 1 to 10 p.m.

The summer tradition “brings together the community with a full day of live music, local food trucks, craft vendors, and interactive art and entertainment for all ages, featuring hot air balloon magic and fiery spectacles,” the release said.

A standout attraction this year is the Special Shape Hot Air Balloon Glow Show.

“Get ready for the debut of Boo, a ghost-shaped balloon, complete with its own built-in light show,” the release said.

Boo will be joined by favorites like Peanut (a 100-foot upside-down elephant), Finley the Fish, Lil D the Dracula, and Chris P. Bacon the pig. Returning crowd favorite Liquid Fire Iron Pour will once again light up the evening with spectacular fiery artistry, alongside the DWNTWN IDOL second-round elimination performances.

Four 20-foot-tall remote-control hot air balloons rise and dip throughout the evening, followed by a dramatic ascent from a special “Cloudhopper” balloon above the crowd.

“We’re putting together one of our most exciting lineups yet,” said Cheryl Crowder, event director for Muncie Downtown Development Partnership.

Full event details — band lineups, vendor lists, event maps, tether ride tickets and volunteer sign-up — will be available at: downtownmuncie.org/fireup.
