Excellent weekend weather ahead for Labor Day weekend fun in the South Bend area

The general South Bend area will sail into unusually comfortable weather for the Labor Day weekend, making it ripe for beaches, festivals and outdoor concerts.

You can thank a high-pressure system, meteorologist Nathan Marsili from the National Weather Service said.

But first a cold front poses a chance of scattered showers and perhaps some thunder Friday, with greater chances in the morning than in the afternoon, he said.

After that, expect some clouds but mostly sunny weather for the rest of the weekend. On Friday, temperatures may only hit the upper 60s, Marsili said (WNDU notched it at 70 degrees).

Highs could reach 72 on Saturday, the mid 70s on Sunday and the mid to upper 70s on Monday, he said. The lows could hover around 50 degrees, plus or minus.

That will certainly make it easier to mix with the crowds at the annual Marshall County Blueberry Festival in Plymouth. Learn more about that and other festivals online in The Tribune’s weekly list of festivals.

You’ll want to check The Tribune’s online list of outdoor concerts for this week, which includes the final Fridays by the Fountain gig with Big Daddy Dupree’s Broke & Hungry Blues Band at Seitz Park.

Also, if you’re looking for a Lake Michigan beach to mark the unofficial end of summer, check The Tribune’s online beach guide.
