Evansville will see several days of dangerous, brutal heat next week

EVANSVILLE – Brutal heat will envelop the Evansville area and most of the Tri-State next week, the National Weather Service says.

The city itself could see heat indices as high as 111 degrees. High temperatures themselves will hover between 96 and 98 between Monday and Thursday.

What days will be the hottest?

The heat wave will begin Sunday after a dayslong deluge of rain finally exits the area.

According to a bulletin from the Paducah, Kentucky office of the NWS, the high temperature could reach 93 degrees, with a heat index of 107.

Things will only get hotter from there. The heat index will bump to 109 Monday, 110 Tuesday and reach a peak of 111 Wednesday. Thursday will go back to 110. The actual high temperatures won’t budge much from 96 to 98.

Warning from the Red Cross

That kind of extreme heat prompted a news release from the American Red Cross on Friday. It ran through the usual warnings around high temperatures: make sure you drink plenty of water, even if you’re not thirsty; take breaks from being outside; and check on family and neighbors to ensure they’re staying cool. Also be on the lookout for signs of heat exhaustion.

Any pets living outside, meanwhile, should have access to water and shade.
