Evansville Water & Sewer Utility shutoff, late fee pauses to last into 2026 for locals

EVANSVILLE — The Evansville Water and Sewer Utility is pausing water shutoffs and late fees for 90 days as a result of the impact the loss of SNAP has caused.

The moratorium on fees and shutoffs began Nov. 3. This came at the start of the work week immediately after SNAP benefits were stopped for the month of November due to the government shutdown.

Locally, many organizations have been working to help fill the chasm left for families without that federal food assistance, whether by assisting with meals, or in the EWSU case, minimizing the potential negative impact of regular bills.

“These temporary measures are intended to provide some relief to customers who might fall behind on their utility bills,” EWSU stated in a news release. “While water shutoffs and late fees are suspended, customers remain responsible for timely payment of their water and sewer services.”

Customers should reach out to EWSU to set up payment arrangements if needed. Useewsu.com/contact to send a message to Customer Service or call 812-436-7846 to speak to a representative.
