Stand-up comedian Emil Wakim is returning to Bloomington — back to the Comedy Attic — to record his debut, hour-long comedy special for Netflix. The special will have Matthew Vaughan for Rotten Science as executive producer. No specific premiere date has been announced.
Wakim, a cast member on Saturday Night Live during its landmark Season 50, was first a Bloomington townie who attended Indiana University and spent many nights at the Comedy Attic, working and then performing at the club beginning in 2017. “We’ve been trying to get him back since he was here last,” said Dayna Thompson, co-owner of the Comedy Attic. “We’ve been working on it, working on it.”
Thompson said all three nights of Wakim’s last time at the comedy club were sold out. She expects the same for the five shows when he returns Oct. 22-24.
When Wakim began talking with Netflix, Thompson said he wanted the filming done at the Comedy Attic, something Thompson appreciates. “It feels like he’s home,” she said of him performing at the Bloomington club.
Tickets for the Comedy Attic performances are on sale, priced at $37.89 each. To purchase tickets, go online to www.comedyattic.com.
