MUNCIE, IN — A Dunkirk man convicted of sexually abusing a child at a Delaware County nursing home has been sentenced to four years on electronic home detention.
Christopher John Carter, 35, had pleaded guilty to child molesting, a Level 4 felony carrying up to 12 years in prison.
Delaware Circuit Court 3 Judge Doug Mawhorr on May 5 accepted the terms of a plea bargain that called for Carter to spend four years on home detention before being placed on probation for four years.
Carter, arrested in 2019, was employed at the local nursing home where his criminal conduct occurred.
He was accused of exchanging text messages with the child that were “sexual in nature,” Muncie police said.
Carter told investigators he had been in a “romantic relationship” with the pre-teen, twice fondling the child during encounters at the nursing home. The juvenile was visiting the nursing facility at the time.
The Dunkirk man also acknowledged he had engaged in a video chat that was sexual in nature with the juvenile while Carter was showering.
Court records reflect no prior convictions for Carter. He will also be required to register as a convicted sex offender in the communities where he lives and works.
