MUNCIE, IN — A Muncie man’s past caught up with him on Tuesday, May 19, when a Delaware Circuit Court 2 jury found him guilty of unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.
Testimony indicated Jackie Dwayne Joiner, now 50, had a Glock handgun when he went to a female acquaintance’s West 13th Street apartment on June 18, 2023.
Joiner is prohibited from possessing firearms because of his criminal record, which includes convictions for armed robbery, criminal confinement, criminal recklessness, domestic battery, intimidation, resisting law enforcement, strangulation and unlawful possession of a firearm.
The jury on Tuesday also found the Muncie man guilty of invasion of privacy, a misdemeanor, based on allegations he violated the terms of a protection order by going to the woman’s home.
Jurors also also ruled that Joiner was a habitual offender, a status that could add up to 20 years to the sentence he receives from Judge Andrew Ramirez on June 11.
Deputy prosecutors Lexi Starost and Josh Craig presented the state’s case against Joiner, who was represented by attorney John Quirk. The Muncie man was not convicted of a residential entry charge.
“Law-abiding members of our society are sick and tired of career criminals like Jackie Joiner walking the streets and reoffending over and over again,” Delaware County Prosecutor Eric Hoffman said in a release after the verdicts were announced.
Joiner still faces a total of six charges — two counts unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, battery with a deadly weapon, intimidation, residential entry and resisting law enforcement — in two other cases pending in Circuit Court 2.
