EVANSVILLE – A third young boy has died from injuries he sustained in an Evansville house fire that had already killed two of his brothers.

The Vanderburgh County Coroner’s office identified the boy as 11-year-old Aleister Craig. He died just before 9 a.m. CDT Tuesday at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis.

He’d been rushed there after a blaze ignited at 604 E. Powell St. in Evansville a little before 2 a.m. Sunday, killing brothers Jeramyah Craig, 14, and 10-year-old Paxton Craig. The coroner’s office confirmed that Aleister was their brother.

The three were apparently home alone when the fire started, authorities have said. On Monday, EFD Chief Deputy Kim Garrett said it could take weeks or even months to determine what caused the house to go up in flames.

“First of all, I just want to make sure to extend our condolences, thoughts and prayers and support to the family that was effected by this tragic event,” she said. “And I want you to understand the best effort was put forward by your firefighters. They did everything they could.”

EFD is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Evansville Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The ATF is stepping in to provide an “another kind of expertise involved due to the circumstances,” Garrett said.
