EVANSVILLE – Both a heavily used exit and part of a busy intersection will temporarily close on the Lloyd Expressway’s West Side this month as the road’s yearslong construction continues.
Meanwhile, drivers should also expect full stoppages at a pair of packed East Side interchanges for the next few days.
The eastbound Lloyd’s ramp onto University Parkway – the exit toward to the University of Southern Indiana – will be blocked for about 30 days, officials said in a news release late last week. The closure was expected to start Tuesday.
According to the release from the Indiana Department of Transportation, the ramp from the westbound Lloyd onto the parkway will remain open. Crews will post a detour for eastbound drivers.
A little farther down the way, workers will also block the south side stretch of Red Bank Road between the Lloyd and Pearl Drive beginning on or around Tuesday. That closure is expected to last for 14 days. The actual intersection of Red Bank and Pearl Drive, however, will remain open to allow people to cross between shopping centers.
East Side delays
Starting Tuesday, crews at the Lloyd’s interchanges with Burkhardt Road and Cross Pointe Boulevard will intermittently block drivers in both directions for as much as 15 to 20 minutes at a time, the release states.
The stoppages will mainly occur between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. They’re expected to last through Friday, but the rain expected over the next few days could push them into early next week.
“The stoppages are necessary to allow project crews to install overhead traffic signal strain pole wires and cables,” the release states.
