Carmel native Shaan Mishra walked onto the Alex Trebek stage Monday, Oct. 27, a returning champion after his thrilling come-from-behind victory last week on “Jeopardy!”
Mishra, a management consultant, had earned the top spot after leaping Friday from third to first in the final round of the popular quiz show. His win even elicited a “way to go!” from Carmel Mayor Sue Finkam on Facebook.
Mishra competed Monday against two opponents: Aaron Levine, a sports anchor from Seattle, Washington, and Morgan Walker, a Colorado marketing director from Glenwood Springs.
Despite a respectable start to Monday’s game, Mishra trailed behind Levine and Walker heading into the final round of “Jeopardy!” Again, Mishra was in third place. Again, he answered the final question correctly, but the Carmel native’s wager this time wasn’t enough to secure a victory.
Mishra ended the night in second place after a costly mistake by Walker left her with all but $2 on the board.
What was the Final Jeopardy question for Monday, Oct. 27, 2025?
You might have known the answer to Monday’s final “Jeopardy!” question if you were familiar with New England destinations and wine. The category was “On the Map.”
Host Ken Jennings posed this question to Mishra, Levine and Walker: “An official American viticultural area spannning multiple states includes this eastern island where you’ll find the town of Chilmark.”
Mishra appeared calm and contemplative before writing down the answer a few seconds before time on the clock expired, “What is Martha’s Vineyard?”
“Yes, viticulture is grape cultivation and there are vineyards on Martha’s Vineyard,” Jennings said. Mishra wagered $4,000, bringing his total to $8,800.
Walker, who was in second place with $10,200, answered incorrectly with, “What is Long Island?” Her gamble of $10,198 dropped her down to third place.
“So it comes down to Aaron Levine; $14,600,” Jennings said. “Did he know it was Martha’s Vineyard?”
Unfortunately for Mishra, Levine did.
The sports anchor’s wager of $6,000 put him in first place to end the night with $20,600, unseating Mishra as the quiz show’s next champion.
Mishra’s final winnings totaled $15,600.
Mishra was hiking when he learned he’d appear on ‘Jeopardy!’
Mishra said he was in the midst of a two-and-a-half long backpacking trip that took him to 17 countries when he found out he’d be competing on “Jeopardy!”
“I realized that the best way for me to study as I was traveling was just to ask the people around me what they knew the best,” he told the audience.
Mishra studied the Bible while driving though the Caucasus Mountains in Armenia and Georgia and heard about “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” another popular TV show, while in India. That drew a laugh from Jennings.
