Caitlin Clark 'limited in practice' as Fever being 'super cautious' with their star's injury

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark is still working her way back from a left leg injury, and it has kept her limited in the Fever’s training camp over the past week.

“She’s been limited in practice, so we’re still very cautious about working her way back and really letting her body kind of tell her how much she’s able to do,” Fever coach Stephanie White said Wednesday. “We’re really relying on the training staff, and she’s making great progress. And that’s what we need, just to make sure that we’re super cautious.”

Clark’s injury was first announced on May 2, when she popped up on the injury report ahead of the Fever’s preseason opener against the Mystics. She described the injury as “just a little tightness,” and went through warmups as normal before she was ruled out of the May 3 game.

She played in the Fever’s game on May 4, which was the second game of a back-to-back, at her alma mater in Iowa City, Iowa. She scored 16 points in 19 minutes in that game, shooting 6-of-10 from the floor and 4-of-6 from 3-point range — including a 36-footer.

While the Fever have not specifically stated what injury Clark is working back from, signs point to it being something muscular. Clark spent some time on the stationary bike while she was out of the game Sunday; stationary bikes are typically used to keep the muscles warm and keep blood flowing, which prevents stiffness and cramping. She was also resting a pack on her thigh in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game after she checked out for the final time.

Clark was participating in the portion of practice open to media Wednesday with no visible brace or tape on her leg.

While the injury likely isn’t serious, considering her ample minutes Sunday and ability to still participate in most of practice, the Fever are still opting to err on the side of caution.

The Fever’s final preseason game is 3 p.m., Saturday at Atlanta and the regular season begins May 17 at home against Chicago.
