INDIANAPOLIS — Caitlin Clark was energized in the second half of the Indiana Fever 83-71 win over the Atlanta Dream on Thursday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, and had a perfect explanation for it.
Though, you may not want to read, or listen, if you ate recently. Consider it your warning. But it did explain the splits between the first half and the second half.
Clark came out for warmups prior to the second half, but pivoted back up the tunnel. She needed a trash can.
“I tried to eat some applesauce, and then it just came up, and then everything else in my stomach also came up,” Clark said. “I thought it was gonna stay down, but then I found a trash can, thank God, and I haven’t puked that much in a very long time. But then I felt fine. I felt light, so I was running around feeling good in the second half.”

She played with her usual energy, pace and got the crowd into it multiple times. She finished with 17 points, eight assists and seven rebounds, and the second half saw her with 10 points, six boards and three dimes.
After one 3-pointer, she got back on defense and turned to the crowd, imploring them to get on their feet and get loud. In the fourth quarter, she drove and drew a foul, put both arms straight into the air, with enclosed fists, and a wide smile to celebrate her first free throws of the night.
Sometimes food weighs even the most high-profile of people around, and even they perform at a higher level when feeling their best.
