Body of missing Evansville man found in Warrick County pond

The body of an Evansville man who was reported missing last week was found in a retention pond in Warrick County, Indiana, over the weekend, officials said Tuesday.

According to a news release from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, officials located 67-year-old Joseph Lucia Jr. on Saturday submerged in water on private property behind the Boonville Walmart.

Foul play isn’t suspected, but “the circumstances leading to Lucia’s vehicle entering the pond are still under investigation.”

Lucia was reported missing on July 7. In a Facebook post from July 10, Evansville police published photos of Lucia and his Ford F-150. It said he’d last been seen along Indiana 62 and Old Boonville Highway, near the Walmart.

DNR’s release stated a Warrick County Sheriff’s Office drone spotted what turned out to be Lucia’s truck submerged in the water. A tow truck later removed it. Joseph Haywood, a conversation officer, told the Courier & Press Lucia’s body was found inside.
