Anthony Richardson's Week 18 status for Colts' finale still unknown

As of Monday, it still has not yet been decided whether quarterback Anthony Richardson will be activated for the Indianapolis Colts’ season finale against Houston this week.

Richardson remains on injured reserve. He was placed on IR on Oct. 12th after suffering an orbital fracture during pre-game warmups.

Richardson returned to practice two weeks ago. He has participated in all six practices since then in a limited capacity.

“We’ll see on that,” Shane Steichen said when asked if Richardson would be activated. “Like I said, he’s still got the eye limitations, and we just want to be really smart with that, to be completely honest.”

Steichen has not yet made a decision on who will start at quarterback for the Colts in Week 18. He said he will determine that by Tuesday and then make an announcement on Wednesday.

That decision seems to be between Phillip Rivers and Riley Leonard, who Ian Rapoport reported could get the start this week. Richardson doesn’t appear to be in that mix.

Having spent the majority of the season on IR, Richardson appeared in two games this year.

The 2026 season will be the final of Richardson’s rookie deal. The Colts have to either pick up or decline Richardson’s fifth-year option for the 2027 season this offseason.
