A false hostage situation call brought Mishawaka police to Grape Road

MISHAWAKA — A false call stating five men were holding another man hostage brought heavy Mishawaka Police to a home on Grape Road across the street from Meijer, 5020 Grape Road.

Upon entering the home, police found a man who had fallen overnight in need of medical assistance, according to Mishawaka police. The man recieved medical attention on site and was transported to a hospital. Police are at the hospital questioning the man, dispatch said.

It is unclear why the caller, who was found to be a friend of the fallen man, called “in the first place,” dispatch said. MPD does “not know” whether the caller will be charged related to the false report.

The investigation is ongoing, according to dispatch.

The Grape Road incident was completely unrelated to an incident earlier that morning at Fir Road and Indiana 23, police said. That incident involved unconfirmed reports of a man with a handgun, possibly firing it, at that location.
