What's next for Peoria-area soccer teams in the 2025 IHSA sectional finals

Two Peoria-area boys soccer teams will play in the Sweet Sixteen of the Illinois High School Association postseason.

Washington won a Class 2A sectional semifinal at its own field on Wednesday. On Tuesday, Dunlap survived penalty kicks to win its Class 2A sectional semifinal in Galesburg.

Washington

Second-seeded Washington (26-1-1) — in its fourth Class 2A sectional the last five seasons — defeated Urbana 4-0 in the semifinals of the Washington Sectional at Babcook Field on Wednesday night.

Washington continued its school record total for wins, getting goals from Jackson MacGregor, Hudson Scrivner, John Clift and Sage Davis. Ollie Wettstein had a clean sheet in goal.

The Panthers advance to the championship game, set for 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, against Normal West (18-4-2).

Dunlap

Top-seeded Dunlap defeated Kankakee (19-7) in penalty kicks at the Class 2A Galesburg Sectional semifinals on Tueasday night. The Eagles (19-3-3) advance to meet Rock Island (12-5-1) in the championship game at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31.

Dunlap goaltender Joseph Heiar stopped the final shot to help the Eagles win in PKs, 4-3. The teams went to overtime tied at 2-2, with Dunlap getting a pair of goals from Jackson Orris — including one with three minutes remianing in the second overtime.

Class 1A

Peoria Christian lost to Quincy Notre Dame, 4-2, in a Class 1A Chillicothe Sectional semifinal on Tuesday, while Roanoke-Benson/Eureka lost to Rock Island Alleman, 6-0.

QND advances to meet Alleman at noon Saturday, Nov. 1 in the sectional final.

R-B ends its season at 13-8-2 and won its first regional since 2019. PCS, in its fifth consecutive sectional, ends its season at 20-6-2.
