Washington is heading back to the Class 3A girls basketball state finals.
The No. 1-ranked Panthers cruised to a 73-47 win over second-ranked New Lenox Providence Catholic on Monday at the Kankakee Supersectional. This victory gives Washington back-to-back victories over two of the three top-ranked teams in 3A.
Washington (33-2), which finished in third place in the state last year, faces unranked Arlington Heights St. Viator (22-14) in the 11:45 a.m. Friday state semifinal at CEFCU Arena.
Avery Tibbs continued her spectacular senior season with 26 points, while Chicago State commit Mazzy O’Brien added 15. The Panthers are riding a six-game winning streak into the program’s third-ever state finals berth.
