Eureka basketball player voted boys athlete of the week for Dec. 1-6, presented by CEFCU

Eureka basketball player Grant Roberts was the Journal Star boys high school athlete of the week winner for Dec. 1-6.

The junior showcased big-time scoring ability last week. He scored 25 points as Eureka lost to host Bloomington Central Catholic, 71-61, on Friday. Roberts opened the season with a 16-point effort to open the season last Tuesday, beating Roanoke-Benson, 68-38.

Connor Doe, Brimfield basketball

The senior helped the Indians to a 4-0 week. Doe scored 23 points in a 64-42 win over Stark County on Friday. He also added nine rebounds and six assists in last Tuesday’s 70-43 victory over Flanagan-Cornell/Woodland. His week started last Monday with all-tournament team honors as Doe scored 27 to beat the hosts, 55-46, in the title game of the Peoria Heights Thanksgiving Tournament.

Anfernee Moore, Richwoods basketball

The sophomore helped the Knights stay undefeated last week. Moore wrapped up his week on Friday, posting a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds in a 72-55 win over Champaign Central. His week began last Tuesday when his 17 points helped rally Richwoods to a 66-60 victory against Peoria High. Richwoods is now 5-0.

Wyatt Medlin, Washington wrestling

The senior started off his final prep season in a big way. He captured the 165-pount weight division at the Washington Invitational on Saturday. Medlin scored a 19-3 tech fall over Arlington Heights Hersey’s Frankie Tagoe in the title bout. In the semifinals, Medlin, an Illinois commit, won by a 19-4 tech fall against Isaac Nevarez of Plano. The Panthers (163.5 points) placed fourth in the standings as Elmhurst IC Catholic (292.5) was the team champion.
