Tazewell County law enforcement officials are currently working to identify skeletal remains that were found Sunday just outside East Peoria.
According to the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office, they responded to the 1300 block of Cole Street south of East Peoria at 4:10 p.m. Sunday after they received a report that a possible human skull was found partially buried in the area.

Cole Street was shut down during the initial investigation.
With the help of the Tazewell County Coroner’s Office and Illinois State Police, the sheriff’s office is working to identify the remains. The investigation is still ongoing, with no identification being made at this time.
