Two wrestlers from Washington high school won Greco-Roman championships at the U.S. Marine Corps Junior Nationals on Saturday at the FargoDome in Fargo, North Dakota.
University of Illinois commit Wyatt Medlin won his first junior Greco title with a 5-1 win over Iowa’s Bas Dias at 157 pounds. The rising senior, a two-time Journal Star wrestler of the year, was second place last year and won a 16U title in 2023. Medlin has two individual state championships and a third-place finish in the Illinois High School Association postseason.
Fellow U of I commit Josh Hoffer, also a rising senior, won at 215 pounds, defeating Minnesota’s Evan McGuire in a 7-0 decision. Hoffer won his first individual IHSA title in 2025.
The duo helped Illinois score 190 team points roll to the title, well ahead of second-place Utah (89 points). Oklahoma (71), Minnesota (70) and Pennsylvania (70) rounded out the top five. It is Illinois’ 16th title in the last 17 tries.
Washington wrestler Symon Woods also earned all-America status with a fifth-place finish at 100 pounds.
