East Peoria graduate Connor Watson is quickly acclimating to college golf.
The Ilinois Central College freshman set a school record with his round of 8-under-par 63 on Monday at Franklin County Country Club in West Frankfort, Illinois. He had eagles on two of his final three holes to help ICC top the six-team field by 18 strokes.
“Connor was special this afternoon, and is just a relentless competitor,” ICC coach Sean Kennedy said in a social media post. “… While it was Connor’s first collegiate medalist championship, I feel confident in predicting it won’t be his last.”
Watson is a two-time Journal Star Golfer of the Year now at the East Peoria junior college. He joins a team coming off a second-place finish in the 2024 NJCAA Division II national tournament under Kennedy.
Watson’s round came just weeks after his teammate Trey Boecker set the school mark with a round of 64 at Park Hills Golf Course in Freeport on Aug. 22. Boecker holds ICC’s two-round tournament record of 133 set that day.
