The boy died at Carle Bromenn Medical Center. The crash itself happened around midnight on U.S. Route 136, under the I-55 overpass.

The boy was a passenger of a mid-size SUV. The driver of the SUV was taken to an area hospital. Their condition is unknown at this time.

An autopsy was scheduled for May 25, according to Yoder.

Yoder did not immediately return a voicemail asking about any updates from the autopsy.

McLean is about 50 miles from Springfield.

The story was updated to fix a typo.
