Here is what you need to know.

What procedures does Javon Bea Hospital excel at?

In addition to overall quality, Healthgrades says that Javon Bea Hospital earned 2025 excellence awards for gastrointestinal and pulmonary care. According to its analysis, the hospital produced superior outcomes when it comes to treating bowel obstruction and gastrointestinal bleeds. It also had better than expected outcomes when it comes to treatment of pneumonia and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The hospital was recognized for critical care and cardiac care for treatment of heart attacks and heart failure in 2024.

What do patients say?

Sixty-six percent of patients rated Javon Bea Hospital with nine or 10 stars, 1% lower than national average. Sixty-two percent of patients would definitively recommend the hospital, 4% lower than the national average. Patient ratings on communication about medicines, communication with their doctors and nurses and responsiveness from hospital staff were slightly below average.

How are these awards determined?

Healthgrades collects patient outcome data from more than 31 of the most common procedures and conditions. They look at the performance of the procedure at each hospital and determine if there were any complications within 30 days. They create a predictive model based on expected outcomes and potential risks and compare the model to actual outcomes, using the data to rank hospitals by assigning a star rating.

Were any other Rockford-area hospital recognized this year?

OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center was recognized with a 2025 Patient Safety Excellence Award. It was also recognized with a Healthgrades America’s 100 Best Hospitals Gastrointestinal Surgery Award and a Gastrointestinal Care Excellence Award. Outcomes were better than expected for upper gastrointestinal and colorectal surgeries.

UW Health SwedishAmerican Hospital patients gave it a 67% experience rating, 1% higher than national average and matching the rating given to OSF Saint Anthony.
