Put crew of USS Gerald Ford ahead of Jan. 6 insurrectionists | Letter

The current administration has recommended that the Jan. 6 insurrectionists should receive compensation for perceived unfair persecution against them by the Department of Justice.

If anyone is due compensation from our government, I believe the nearly 5,000 members of the crew of the USS Gerald R. Ford should come first.

Because of the miscalculations, mismanagement and ineptitude if our current Department of Defense, these people who vowed to protect our country and constitution, were made to carry out the whims of our commander in chief in the Caribbean and Middle East without consultation with or the consent of the people’s representatives in Congress.

Their nearly 11-month extended service should be considered a failure on the part of the Department of Defense.

These patriots were obeying the orders given them and serving our country as they felt called to and not interfering with the peaceful exchange of power and denying the results of a free and fair election as were the insurrectionists.

That one of these groups should receive compensation while the other is only commended for doing their duty should weigh on all our consciences.
