Peoria teenager killed in shooting has been identified

PEORIA — Keyaun Schmitt-Hardimon has been identified as the 15-year-old found dead in a Peoria home on Wednesday morning.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said Schmitt-Hardimon, who was found dead in a home on the 2400 block of Sheridan Road, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and “died instantly.”

Peoria police are investigating the teen’s death as a homicide.

Police received a report of shots fired in the area of the home Wednesday morning around 7:36 a.m. After arriving at the scene, they found Schmitt-Hardimon, who lived on North Idaho Street according to Harwood, dead inside.

Schmitt-Hardimon was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:35 a.m.

The shooting remains under investigation.

Peoria teenager killed in shooting has been identified
