A Peoria man was found not guilty last week of trying to vote twice during Peoria County’s April 2025 elections.
Thorn M. Smith had been indicted last June on charges that he attempted to vote more than once during the April 2025 elections in Peoria County. A two-day jury trial was held from Aug. 4-5, presided over by Peoria County Circuit Judge Katherine Gorman, with the jury taking less than two hours to find Smith not guilty of the charges, according to Peoria County court records.
Smith had been accused of sending in a mail ballot in March 2025, then voting in-person on April 1, 2025. He had been accused of signing a form saying that he hadn’t voted previously and submitting a second ballot, according to the Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office.
While Smith was cleared on the voting charges, he does face charges of stalking and harassment via electronic devices connected to this case. A scheduling conference is set for Oct. 8 at 1:30 p.m., with a trial set for Oct. 29 at 9 a.m., with Gorman presiding over the proceedings.
