Man, 38, killed in fatal Rockford crash identified

ROCKFORD, IL — Authorities have identified a man killed April 1 in a single vehicle crash on College Avenue near Seminary Street as 38-year-old Brett Bothwell of Machesney Park.

Bothwell was driving about 11:15 a.m. eastbound on College Avenue when he apparently lost control of his vehicle and crashed, according to information from the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office.

Rockford Police and Fire Department personnel said Bothwell was unresponsive when they arrived at the scene. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment. He was pronounced dead at 12:09 p.m. April 1 despite lifesaving treatment efforts.

A cause of death is pending further study after an autopsy was completed, the Coroner’s Office said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Coroner’s Office and the Rockford PoliceDepartment.
