The Chicago Bears kicked off training camp on Wednesday, and while it was a lighter workout, second-year wide receiver Luther Burden III was a standout player who continues to garner hype and praise entering 2026.
Burden has been dubbed a potential breakout candidate following an impressive rookie season where he totaled 47 catches on 60 targets for 652 yards and two touchdowns, showcasing his impressive potential and making him one of the better wideouts selected in his draft class. And that was in limited action.
During Wednesday’s practice, Burden was praised for his route running and speed, and he was targeted often. According to Mark Carman, Burden “got a ton of balls. Inside, outside.”
Clay Harbor had high praise for Burden, noting he “looked quick and twitchy today. Had a couple very nice routes. One play against Devin Bush in zone spun him around with his release and stem showing great recognition of the coverage. You can see why Ben Johnson is buying stock in this guy.”
Burden is stepping into an expanded role in his sophomore season, and the potential is there for a breakout year alongside draft mate, tight end Colston Loveland, as those two are expected to be two of quarterback Caleb Williams’ top weapons in the passing game.
It’s only been one day, but Burden has already been making plays and headlines. It’s clear that there’s still plenty to come from Burden this summer and beyond.
