The Leland Grove Police Chief was placed on administrative leave on Feb. 5 following a domestic battery and DUI arrest in Springfield.
Leland Grove Mayor Mary Jo Bangert confirmed to The State Journal-Register that Chief Dan Ryan, who has been with the police department since 1998, was placed on leave.
The 53-year-old Ryan was arrested at Second and Madison streets.
According to a probable cause statement obtained by the SJ-R, Ryan’s girlfriend told Illinois State Police that she was pushed down on to a couch by Ryan, who also pulled her hair.
The woman stated that after the physical contact, Ryan started damaging property in a house they shared in the 1000 block of West Elliott Avenue.
ISP trooper observed that the house was “messy” and that several items had been pulled down and knocked over, observing that “it was clear that an altercation had taken place.”
Ryan was first hired as a part time officer with the department. He was promoted to full time status in 1999.
Ryan started his law enforcement path in 1995 as an auxiliary deputy with the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Department.
