PEORIA — Richwoods has received a forfeit victory following the suspension of its Week 7 Illinois High School Association football game at Urbana.
The Knights are now 2-5 overall with the same record in Big 12 Conference play after being awarded a 1-0 win over Urbana. A fight broke out with 23.8 seconds left in the first half resulting in officials suspending play.
“Multiple Urbana players left the bench during a fight,” IHSA assistant executive director Sam Knox wrote Tuesday in an email to the Journal Star. “When players leave the bench during a fight, they are ejected. The officials determined Urbana didn’t have enough players remaining to finish the game.
“Therefore, Richwoods won the game by forfeit.”
Richwoods athletics director Jeff Crusen confirmed five Knights players who were ejected against Urbana will miss the Week 8 home game against Danville on Friday.
