The Tazewell County Health Department inspects a variety of local establishments to identify issues that could contribute to the spread of foodborne illness and to ensure general cleanliness and maintenance.
In June, the Health Department visited approximately 35 food service facilities operating in the county. The Journal Star lists establishments based on the number of violations observed during routine inspections. Eight Tazewell establishments had no violations last month, and three had five violations or more.
Establishments with no violations
Faire Coffee – 101 N. Washington Square, Washington
Fondulac Farm Park – 303 Neumann Drive, East Peoria
Freddie’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers – 134 Spinder Drive, East Peoria
K & M Village Tap – 107 E. First Ave., Deer Creek
Kooler Ice Creve Coeur – 724 S. Main St., Creve Coeur
Kroger – 20 Cherry Tree Shopping Center, Washington
The Pizza Guys Woodfired LLC – 2675 Allentown Road, Pekin
Twisted Spoke Saloon – 251 Derby St., Pekin
Establishments with five or more violations
Bob Evans Restaurant – 304 N. Main St, East Peoria
Six violations
The inspector found a build-up of grease and debris underneath and behind grills and fryers: a repeat violation. Other violations consisted of food debris inside a microwave oven, an employee wearing a watch while preparing food, tableware stored with food contact surfaces facing up, improper hand washing, and improperly mixed sanitizer.
Pizza Hut – 513 S. Parkway Drive, Pekin
Five violations
The Health Department identified a repeat violation in the form of a gap in the back door. Other violations included improperly mixed sanitizer; torn gaskets on the hot-holding unit and walk-in cooler doors; a soiled top surface on the dish machine and a soiled rack under a food preparation area; soiled walls, ceilings, drains, and fan covers; missing caulking on a hand sink that was not secured to the wall; and cracked floor tiles near the oven and the fryer.
ROC Ice Cream and Golf – 220 Farmdale Road, East Peoria
Five violations
Violations included no Certified Food Protection Manager on site, improperly mixed sanitizer, three ice cream coolers that did not have thermometers, a window that was left open with no screen, and a dumpster lid that was left open.
