The city of Galesburg has released its 2025 annual report, highlighting a year of economic growth, infrastructure investment and fiscal responsibility.
The report outlines key achievements in several areas, according to a community announcement.
Lowest property tax rate since 2008
Galesburg maintained the lowest city property tax rate since 2008 — $2.39 per $100 of equalized assessed value — while continuing to invest in capital improvements.
The city facilitated more than $86 million in private investment and the creation of more than 225 full-time jobs.
Federal grant to fund rail infrastructure improvements
The city was awarded a $25 million RAISE grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to install rail infrastructure at the Galesburg Business Park. Additionally, the city enhanced downtown with the reconstruction of East Simmons Street and the adjacent public parking lot.
Parks and recreation improvements
The city invested in parks and recreation, including upgrades to the Jimmy Isaacson Baseball Field at H.T. Custer Park and the creation of Cooke Park, which offers a playground, walking path and picnic shelter. A splash pad is planned for 2026.
