An East Peoria Police detective died of a heart attack Wednesday at OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center, according to Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood.
Detective Robert Vester, 41, went into cardiac arrest Saturday morning at his home and despite efforts to save his life, he died Wednesday afternoon around 5:42 p.m., Harwood said.
Vester’s wife performed CPR until first responders arrived on scene Saturday morning, Harwood said. He was flown to OSF in critical condition from their home in rural Peoria County.
“Our deepest condolences and prayers go out to his family and the entire staff at the East Peoria Police Department,” Harwood said.
Vester’s death prompted a large police presence at OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center of officers who were there to pay their respects, OSF spokeswoman Shelli Dankoff told the Journal Star.
