Music on the Mall: That Gurl

Collective Action for the Climate
What: Discuss the different ways people can take part in composting locally with Jessie Crow Mermel, a worker-owner with Nettle Curbside Compost. She also leads women’s circles, land restoration, rewilding programs, retreats and wonder walks. Her family has roots near Växjö, Sweden, Europe’s greenest city. She visited Sweden in 2019 and was inspired by the country’s commitment to the environment. Clark Kelly and Eli Parker
What: Come for an album release show with Clark Kelly, a Nashville-seasoned songwriter and performer whose music is firmly rooted in the art of storytelling. Clark has crafted a style that blends wit, heart and detail. His latest project, recorded with a full orchestra, features a collection of humorous, light-hearted, yet quietly profound songs. Eli Parker is an upcoming musician from Rockford, who takes inspiration from John Mayer, The Strokes and The Lumineers.

Summer RV Showcase
What: Shop special RV showcase pricing on new and used RVs, see the latest RVs and enter to win a new RV. There is a $25 registration fee for the ride, with $20 per additional rider. Back in School Fun Fair
What: The Back in School Fun Fair on the Farm community event will feature a variety of fee-based and free activities for all ages. Free activities include admission to the event and Sarver Children’s Farm, relay race to the school bus, story time with animals at Sarver’s Children’s Farm by the chicken coop (on the hour, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.), photo opportunities, fun fair games and a scavenger hunt. Paid activities include wagon rides, trail rides, pony experience sessions, face painting and food trucks.

Dance at the Dells
What: Dance at the Dells is a collaborative project between Meghan and Caitlyn Baylor and Severson Dells Nature Center for all ages. This outdoor performance merges dance with nature encouraging the idea of “no barriers” between humans and nature and also between performers and audience members. Registration is required.

Jaimie Cox Motorcycle Rally
What: All proceeds from this seventh annual ride benefit the Jaimie Cox Foundation, a local non-profit founded in 2019 in honor of fallen Rockford Police Officer Jaimie Cox. Pre-registration is recommended. Registration fee includes breakfast at the Roscoe VFW before the ride and a brat/chips meal at Crazy Times at the end of the ride. Registration will be from 8-10 a.m. Kickstands up and riding out at 10:30 a.m. The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office and Ogle County Sheriff’s Office and all the agencies in between are providing law enforcement escort to get through towns and intersections safely and smoothly. Rockford Steel Pigs MC will lead riders out behind the escorts. Registration also comes with one raffle ticket for a pair of tickets to see Ron White at the Hard Rock Casino. Blue Steel will play from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at Crazy Times after the ride.

Art Lecture Series
What: “Analog: Rockford’s Decade of Creative Rebellion” celebrates the dynamic and innovative art scene of Rockford in the 1990s, showcasing local artists who left a significant mark on the community’s artistic landscape. Café Esperanto, now known as Kortman Gallery, added to the cultural richness of the time by merging a cozy café environment with an art gallery, pioneered by Doc Slafkosky and Jerry Kortman. This eclectic venue frequently hosted exhibitions, providing local and regional artists with a platform to show their work, and became a beloved gathering place in Rockford’s downtown art scene. Executive Director/Chief Curator Carrie Johnson will talk with Doc Slafkosky, Jerry Kortman and Doug Connell.
