Lent started Wednesday, which means residents across Illinois will be looking for meat alternatives every Friday until April.
Luckily, plenty of food chains operating in Illinois have deals or limited-time menu items to accommodate a seafood diet. Here are some local specials to look out for.
Burger King Fish Sandwich
Royal Perks members can get a $4 Big Fish Sandwich. The deal is exclusive to the BK App and bk.com.
Checkers and Rally’s 2 for $4
The chains’ 2 for $4 sandwich offer is available through March. Customers can mix and match sandwiches, including the Crispy Fish Sandwich made with 100% wild Alaskan pollock and the Spicy Chicken Sandwich.

Freddy’s Crispy Fish Sandwich
The chain has launched its limited-time Deluxe Crispy Fish Sandwich, made with a four-ounce piece of battered Alaska flounder and topped with tartar sauce, lettuce, pickles and melted American cheese; all on a toasted bun.
The sandwich ($7.69-$11.69) is available through April 7.
Golden Corral limited-time seafood options
All-You-Can-Eat Butterfly Shrimp & Steak is back at the buffet chain.
The dinner promotion features Signature Carved Sirloin alongside jumbo, crispy Butterfly Shrimp, with a new $7.99 Lobster Tail add-on.
Expanded seafood options include Seafood Cakes, Baked Fish, Bone-In Catfish and the new Cajun Breaded Fried Fish.
The special menu items are available through April 19.
Guests can purchase the Butterfly Shrimp & Steak promotional items through Golden Corral’s To Go options (Weigh & Pay, Delivery, or Online Ordering).
Popeyes Seafood Menu
The Popeyes Seafood Menu has returned for a limited time, with four new dry rub options to spice up ala carte Shrimp and Tackle Box.
Guests can now add on Garlic Parmesan, Lemon Pepper Shrimp, Ghost Pepper and Buffalo flavors.
The chain has also brought back fried pickles, which sold out nationwide last year when it was offered for a limited time.

Qdoba Citrus Lime Shrimp
Qdoba has brought back Citrus Lime Shrimp. The dish (starting at $13.25) features freshly sautéed shrimp tossed in a citrus-lime sauce. It can be paired with any of the chain’s toppings, including hand-crafted guacamole and 3-cheese queso.
A Surf & Turf entree with Citrus Lime Shrimp and Flame-Grilled Steak ($14.75) is available.
Sonic Fish Sandwich
Sonic offers its Fish Sandwich entrée for $4.99 and as part of a combo for $8.39.
White Castle Buttermilk Shrimp Nibblers
Buttermilk Shrimp Nibblers ($4.59-$9.99) are available nationwide for a limited time at White Castle. The dish, a twist on the traditional Shrimp Nibblers, features shrimp coated in a seasoned buttermilk batter.
The Nibblers are available through April 5 while supplies last.
