Bears LB Tremaine Edmunds has 'decent chance' to be traded

With free agency just a week out, there have been plenty of trade rumors surrounding the Chicago Bears, who appear to be sellers. One of the most intriguing names is linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, who was expected to be a salary cap casualty. But he appears to be garnering trade interest.

Last week, the Bears granted Edmunds permission to seek a trade. And while many don’t expect Chicago to find a trade partner, ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler said Edmunds has “strong trade value” and a “decent chance” to be dealt. Fowler notes that the Tennessee Titans, Las Vegas Raiders and New York Giants are among those interested.

One player who has strong trade value and a decent chance to be dealt is Bears linebacker Tremaine Edmunds. The Titans, Raiders and Giants are among teams interested in high-end linebackers, and they like Edmunds, who’s only 27 despite eight years in the league. He was granted permission to seek a trade earlier this week.

The Bears signed Edmunds to a four-year, $72 million contract back in 2023, and he’s entering the final year of that deal. But given Edmunds’ massive cap hit, how that hasn’t translated on the field and Chicago being over the salary cap, it made him an obvious cut candidate.

Considering Edmunds is a strong candidate to be cut, which would save $15 million in salary cap space with $2.43 million in dead money, getting draft compensation for him would be a huge win for general manager Ryan Poles.
