Bears CB Jaylon Johnson could miss rest of season with groin injury

The Chicago Bears will be without Pro Bowl cornerback Jaylon Johnson for the foreseeable future, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Courtney Cronin.

Johnson reaggravated his groin injury during Sunday’s loss to the Detroit Lions, and he’ll be out indefinitely leaving Chicago’s already-thin cornerback group without their top player.

According to Schefter, the Bears are still evaluating the full extent of Johnson’s groin injury, including whether surgery will be necessary and just how long Johnson will be sidelined.

Jaylon Johnson injury update

Johnson suffered a groin injury during the second quarter of the Bears’ loss to the Lions on Sunday, which happened while breaking up a pass. Johnson missed all of training camp and preseason, as well as Chicago’s season opener, with a groin injury before making his season debut in Week 2 an subsequently reaggravating it.

How long will Jaylon Johnson be sidelined?

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Courtney Cronin, the Bears are uncertain just how long Johnson will be sidelined. They are currently evaluating the full extent of the injury and whether surgery is a requirement. Johnson is out indefinitely, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him land on injured reserve in the near future. Update: According to Jordan Schultz, Johnson is expected to miss the remainder of the season while noting the groin injury will require surgery.

Who will start in Jaylon Johnson’s place?

With Johnson sidelined, the onus is on the starting outside cornerback duo of Tyrique Stevenson and Nahshon Wright, who have both struggled without Johnson. Stevenson, in particular, is coming off a rough outing against the Lions. Now, they’ll be entrusted with facing some of the league’s top passing offenses.
