Bears among the most improved teams in 2025 offseason

It’s been an impactful offseason for the Chicago Bears, who welcomed a new head coach in Ben Johnson along with a slew of new roster additions that have this team poised to make a statement in 2025.

The Bears improved their roster on both sides of the balls, most notably in the trenches on offense (guards Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson, center Drew Dalman, tackle Ozzy Trapilo) and defense (defensive tackles Grady Jarrett and Shemar Turner, defensive end Dayo Odeyingbo). Chicago also added some more weapons for second-year quarterback Caleb Williams, including tight end Colston Loveland and receiver Luther Burden III in the 2025 NFL draft.

For the third straight year, the Bears appear to have won the “offseason champions” title. ESPN’s Ben Solak dubbed the Bears among the three most improved teams this offseason, alongside the Las Vegas Raiders and New England Patriots.

It has been five months since the 2024 regular season ended, and we’re still uncovering more layers of the coaching ineptitude in Chicago. Caleb Williams’ rookie season was rife with concerning film, but it’s quite easy to attribute his spiraling to the poor coaching. With Ben Johnson on hand and Dennis Allen running the defense, the Bears should be far more functional in 2025. Their substantial offseason additions on offense could define a very high ceiling, if they hit.

Following a disastrous 5-12 season, the Bears have made it a priority to overhaul the front office and roster and help get this team on track. That starts with the hiring of Johnson as head coach and continued with general manager Ryan Poles’ doing everything to build around his young quarterback.

Chicago has the second most difficult strength of schedule this season, so it won’t be an easy road. But having the right coaches in place to help maximize this roster and put them in positions to succeed is already a huge step in the right direction.
