The Chicago Bears activated defensive end Montez Sweat from the non-football illness list on Wednesday. He was only on the list for one day, an encouraging sign as he makes his training camp debut on Thursday.
Last season, Sweat recorded double-digit sacks (10) for the first time with the Bears (he totaled 12.5 between Chicago and Washington when the Commanders traded him in 2023). He has now recorded two double-digit sack seasons in three years. Sweat also totaled 53 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 18 QB hits, 53 pressures, three forced fumbles and five pass breakups.
There’s a lot of pressure on this defensive line heading into 2026 after a lackluster season where they mustered just 35 sacks, the seventh-fewest in the NFL. Sweat will be key to the pass rush’s turnaround, and getting him back on the field without missing significant time is important.
The Bears previously placed linebacker T.J. Edwards on the non-football injury list while cornerback Kyler Gordon, offensive tackle Ozzy Trapilo, defensive tackle Shemar Turner and linebackers Noah Sewell and Keyshaun Elliott all landed on the physically unable to perform list.
