Child attacked by dogs in Morton as citizen intervenes

A dog was shot and killed in Morton on Thursday after it and another dog attacked a child, according to the Morton Police Department.

The Morton Police Department and Tazewell County Animal Control responded to a report of a child being attacked by dogs in the 500 block South Fourth Avenue, just before noon on Thursday.

An animal control officer witnessed two dogs attacking a juvenile. Two citizens also tried to intervene and stop the attack. One of the dogs charged at a citizen who was a licensed firearm owner. The person shot and killed the attacking dog. The other dog was captured.

The owner of the dogs has been identified, according to police

The boy, whose age was not released, is being treated for injuries at a hospital.
