PEORIA — A downtown office building for a prominent employer continues to be closed after a storm damaged some of the location’s vital systems several weeks ago.
Ameren’s Downtown Peoria office, located at the corner of Adams and Liberty streets, is closed to employees while the company works to repair damages to its building and the city of Peoria works on making repairs outside of the building, the city and Ameren confirmed.
In a statement to the Journal Star, a spokesperson for Ameren said indications are that the damages to its building were “storm related.”
“Due to an equipment problem, our employees have been reporting to other Ameren facilities and working remotely while repairs are being made,” said Tucker Kennedy, Ameren’s director of public relations.
There is no firm timeline for when the building will be able to reopen. Roughly 143 people work at the downtown location, according to Ameren, comprised of both Ameren employees and consultants under contract to Ameren.
The eight-story building, which formerly housed the Central Illinois Light Company (CILCO), was built in 1959.
Public Works crews with the city of Peoria also recently began replacing a stormwater inlet and re-grading a portion of the alley that sits behind Ameren’s building, city attorney Patrick Hayes said.
