What is our place in American history? What distinguishes us?

There is the Ocala National Forest, which is the nation’s southernmost national forest and was created by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1908.

There is the Fort King National Historic Landmark, a reconstructed Army fort from the Second Seminole War (1835-1842).

Silver Springs (now Silver Springs State Park) was a tourist attraction in Florida before Disney and the massive theme parks became dominant.

And, of course, Ocala/Marion County, known as Horse Capital of the World, plays a major role in the nation’s equine sector. Marion is home to 75,000 horses — more than any other county in the United States.
