'You sort of look like Alice Cooper': More SWFL sightings of rock icon

Alice Cooper apparently got around while he visited Southwest Florida for his May 5 show in Fort Myers.

The rock icon shopped at Edison Mall, ate meals at Cape Coral’s Crisp Creperie and Sanibel Island’s The Timbers and more. He also took time to sign autographs and pose for photos with fans.

The News-Press reported May 6 on Cooper’s May 5 visit to Edison Mall and new vintage market Old Town New Market Central. Since then, readers have commented about other Cooper sightings all over Lee County.

The shock rocker played golf at Sanibel’s The Dunes Golf & Tennis Club, ate crepes at Crisp Creperie and dined with his entire crew at The Timbers.

Timbers employee Kristin Swanson says Cooper, his wife and his touring crew — 35 people, in all — ate at the Sanibel restaurant on May 4, the night before his concert at Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall.

“They were all so awesome!” Swanson wrote in the comments to the Edison Mall article posted on The News-Press Facebook page. “They were all allowed to enjoy (themselves) without being bombarded by fans.

“They were all so amazing. Great people. Alice Cooper ate stone crab and swordfish. Yum!”

‘That’s Alice Cooper’: Rocker eats lunch at Cape Coral’s Crisp Creperie

The day after his Fort Myers concert, Cooper visited Cape restaurant Crisp Creperie for lunch at Coralwood Mall. He and his wife munched on savory crepes stuffed with beef, caramelized onions and other ingredients.

Restaurant owner Jack Hernandez didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary, at first, during the visit. Then he overheard his server asking if Cooper — wearing a baseball cap with his long hair in a bun — was a performer. He told her he was a musician.

“She said, ‘Oh yeah, you sort of look like Alice Cooper,'” Hernandez says. “And he says, ‘I AM Alice Cooper.’ And she said to him, ‘No, you’re not.'”

That’s when his server called Hernandez out from the kitchen for a second opinion.

“She said, ‘Who does that look like? Who does that guy look like?'” he says. “And I went over and I go, ‘That’s Alice Cooper.'”

Hernandez says the Coopers apparently loved their lunch and plan to come back some day. “He goes, ‘This is by far my favorite restaurant now.'”

Hernandez says he’s a Cooper fan, himself, and they share a common friend — one of Cooper’s former bass players. So they talked about their friend and the restaurant’s door sign that proclaims the place to be “The Jesus Joint.” Cooper is also a Christian.

“He said that’s what brought him in,” Hernandez says.

It was great meeting the rock star, he says. Cooper even posed for photos with him.

“It was awesome,” Hernandez says. “I mean, I’m standing here with a legend, the legendary Alice Cooper. Who wouldn’t be stoked?”
