YNW Melly bond request ruling 'deferred' as Florida rapper turns 27

Days after YNW Melly appeared in Broward County court for a hearing on multiple motions April 30, there is still no word on if the Florida rapper will be granted pre-trial release from jail ahead of his January 2027 murder trial.

Presiding Judge Martin S. Fein adjourned the proceedings just after 3 p.m. Thursday after hearing from the prosecution and defense. According to court documents, the ruling on the motion was “deferred.”

Melly, born Jamell Maurice Demons, has been in jail since his February 2019 arrest and has alleged mistreatment during his seven years being incarcerated.

Demons is charged with two counts of first-degree murder of childhood friends and YNW rap collective members Anthony “YNW Sakchaser” Williams and Christopher “YNW Juvy” Thomas Jr.

Here’s what we know so far.

Demons and Henry were charged in relation to the Oct. 26, 2018, shooting deaths of Williams, of Fort Pierce, and Thomas, of Gifford, initially entering not-guilty pleas. In September 2025, Henry accepted a plea deal, was sentenced to 10 years in prison and entered the Florida prison system.

“YNW Melly” has collaborated with controversial rapper Ye, formerly Kanye West, as well as late rapper Juice WRLD, Lil Uzi Vert, Kodak Black, and Lil Baby.

Instead, the file has “Ruling Deferred” written in.

“Deferred” refers to something that has been “withheld or delayed for or until a stated time,” according to Merriam-Webster.
