A woman was questioned by Leon County Sheriff’s Office investigators after a man was shot dead outside a west Tallahassee residence just after midnight on Sunday, July 6.
It was one of two homicides that occurred over the holiday weekend.
“Deputies responded to a call around 12 a.m. reporting gunfire in the 400 block of Manatee Cove Drive,” an LCSO spokesperson wrote in an incident alert. “Upon arrival, they discovered a 23-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound.”
The victim was transported by emergency medical services to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:31 a.m. Hours later, the Tallahassee Police Department announced a separate homicide investigation, after a man was shot while police were working to disperse a large crowd in south Tallahassee.
LCSO announced the shooting a day and a half after the incident in a Monday evening Facebook post. LCSO spokesperson Javonni Hampton acknowledged the shooting was a “domestic situation.”
“This situation is sort of an isolated situation,” she told the Democrat. “There is no threat to the community.”
Hampton said investigators identified a suspect and the woman was questioned in custody but later released. No arrests have been made and the case remains under investigation.
Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has relevant information to come forward.
Witnesses can contact the Violent Crimes Unit at (850) 606-3300. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through CrimeStoppers at (850) 574-TIPS and be subject to a cash reward.
So far in 2025, 13 people have been killed and at least 23 injured in at least 34 serious shootings in the capital city and county, according to a Tallahassee Democrat analysis of gun violence.
