Stickney Point project needs restaurant
There is no restaurant currently planned for Sarasota County’s Stickney Point Road waterfront project on the intercoastal.
Locals and visitors alike all love waterfront dining; it’s the next best thing to boating without the expense and hassle.
We all moved here to be close to the beach and water.
There must be a local restaurant group that would consider that site appealing to run a casual restaurant – the operators of Mattison’s, Gecko’s, The Old Salty Dog or Marina Jack all come to mind.
It’s too good of a location to only provide the vending options proposed in the initial plans.
Sarasota has lost its small-town feel, so I suggest a parking garage topped with a restaurant.
It would not be an eyesore since it would be near the water level, and traffic on the bridge is elevated.
Parking has always been a challenge there, so going vertical a bit might help.

Lawsuit hurts Sarasota County taxpayers
I read with interest Derek Gilliam’s May 7 piece titled “Policy on school-tax collection changed.”
It is unacceptable for county offices to be hiring outside counsel to fight other county offices.
The epidemic of lawsuits at the federal, state and local levels is draining away our tax dollars.
The true winners here seem to be the lawyers
